Christopher Walken? Pretty cool. Christopher Walken in yellow face? Worst idea ever. What the fuck?? I have no desire to see this dumbass movie, Balls of Fury. I feel bad about even giving it publicity by writing about it, but the point of this post is actually to highlight that the film is supposed to be a parody of the plot from Bruce Lee’s 1973 classic, Enter the Dragon. What I think everyone owes it to themselves to do is not see the dumbass movie and instead rent/netflix/download/buy the classic, Enter the Dragon. Still skeptical? Peep this article for more reasons.

The Man Who Ruined Sports?

“To get into the Hall of Fame, an executive better have done more than write zeroes on paychecks.”

One writer over at CBS Sportsline thinks that George Steinbrenner, the owner of the New York Yankees baseball team, helped pave the way for baseball to ruin the economics of all popular American sports. Check out the article here. Now as an A’s fan, I’ve always hated Steinbrenner and the Yankees for being the team with the fattest payroll, with Steinie all smug sitting up in his luxury box thinking about what players he’s going to buy up next. Turns out some folks at CBS Sportsline think so too! The article is pretty interesting, painting Steinie out to be a spoiled brat who should never be considered for the Hall of Fame. Not to mention all those illegal contributions he was supposed to have made to Nixon back in the day (wikipedia that one).

Katrina: Two Years Later

Today marks the two year anniversary of the devastation inflicted on the southern US by Hurricane Katrina and the terrible handling of the situation by the government. Bill Quigley, a New Orleans activist, has written a great article about ten lessons learned at the two year anniversary mark that you can peep here.

The Black Agenda Report has also posted an interesting article about holding the government accountable to international human rights laws that were violated during the storm’s aftermath. Check that one out over here.

Lastly, Asian Week has put together a piece about the struggles of the Gulf Coast’s Asian American communities two years after the storm. Check that one here.

Dave Zirin wrote a piece today reflecting on New Orleans and “NOLA blogger solidarity” that he witnessed on a trip to the Big Easy. Yeaaah bloggers. Peep that one here.

We’re Number 1?

Bill Maher tells why America needs to stop saying its so great and start acting like it. Word. This video is a little old, almost a year ago, but still on point today (except for soccer fans, peep the clip and you’ll see). If you want a more recent article that shows how the rest of the world is really stepping their game up, in combination with the US totally screwing itself, head over to AlterNet and peep this article. My advice to parents? Start getting your kids to take Mandarin, Spanish, Russian or Farsi lessons. English is so 1990.

Another product of incest. Don’t do it, kids.

Don’t Blame China

Read any recent headlines and you’ll probably see something about “poison toys from China” or “contaminated food from China” or any other number of China-hating shit. Yeah, China is on the US shit list. Why? Peep this article posted a couple weeks back at and you might get a better sense of the whole situation. Its a lot of economics talk, but basically, the US is trying to do what its done for decades now: bully other countries into making financial moves that benefit Uncle Sam. The things is, America has dug itself into such a financial hole (that whole multi-trillion dollar deficit thing) and has borrowed money from China for so long now that our economy is completely dependent on them. Shit, a lot of things are dependent on them. If China started selling off all those US bonds that they have, the value of the dollar would take a nosedive. It might not be all that bad though. We’d be broke, so I’d think the war would be over because we wouldn’t have any money for it; which would work out nicely since it seems the Democrats have no intention of stopping it (the Democrat controlled Congress actually voted to increase money for the War. Weren’t they elected to end it? Weird).

Ultimately, China has sent a message that they aren’t going to be bullied, especially by someone who has so much to lose by picking a fight. So question all the anti-China shit that you might continue to hear about. The Chinese aren’t the ones to blame for America’s problems, Washington is.

Video Round-Up

Harold and Kumar 2…ahahahah

“Boyz” from M.I.A.’s new album Kala

“D.A.N.C.E.” by French group Justice

This one’s a little older, by dope emcee K-Gates, “Lemme Get Me.” I found out about this guy last summer, when I was living in New Orleans. The video captures a lot of the physical devastation of NOLA post-Katrina, with many neighborhoods still looking like this after two years.
