Labor Thoughts

In honor of this past Labor Day weekend, I’ve put together some articles I found interesting.

One SF Chronicle article describes the shift in the US economy from manufacturing to service-based, here.

Over at Counterpunch, Matt Reichel describes how the American Dream is much more about materialism than liberty and justice, but does it have to be this way? Peep that article here.

Finally, one of my favorite labor groups, American Rights at Work, releases a great list every Labor Day highlighting some large corporations who are actually turning a profit and respecting their employees right to choose a union and bargain for better benefits, wages, etc. Making money and respecting workers rights? Who’d have ever thought that was possible? They’ve been doing this list for the last three years so check out the 2006 and 2005 edition as well here.
