Sean Taylor, 1983-2007

Yesterday, NFL safety Sean Taylor died from a gunshot wound inflicted during a home invasion attempt. He was twenty-four years old and father to an 18-month baby girl. I remember watching this guy when he was in college and being amazed at the ridiculous hits he would lay down. Maybe it’s the fact that we were the same age, but news of his death really saddened me. It also sounded like he was really at a positive place in his life after some definite struggles in the past. RIP. Below are some highlights from his college days.

  1. yo dude, i HELLA feel u on thinking about how this cat was the same age as us. i saw this on sportscenter the other night and it mde me feel super depressed. “Things fall Apart,” as they say. a huge part of my buddhist beliefs focus on addressing the fact that everything is impermanent and nothing in this world will last forever. it helps me remember to cherish the things i hold dear, and to not sweat the things that make me wanna commit sepukku. on one side: sean taylor will be missed by many for a long, long time and our hearts break collectively for him and his family, but on the other side: we will someday get to witness all of the people in the current administration waste away and die.

im never one to celebrate death, but it is comforting to know that it isn’t just marginalized poor people (or hardworking, young, male athletes of color) who meet their end. death is a part of life and comes to us all, and while sean taylor is in a better place, cheney, condi and all the bush administration will not be.

    R.I.P. Sean Taylor,

p.s. the cheddarbox keeps me hanging on at work sun.

  2. This is really sad. Poor little baby girl and family left behind because of such senseless acts of violence. Senseless! And people are saying they want guns back in DC so they can protect themselves. Great, so more people can die! If there’s one thing that became abundantly clear in criminal law (with some Critical Race Theory in that mix), it’s that self defense and race are inextricably intertwined. Everyone can justify defending themselves with a gun b/c they feel threatened– and everyone feels threatened by men of color. Allow guns back into DC and you have white people shooting and killing people of color.

I digressed. B/c guns to me lead to senseless violence. But when it’s people of color shooting and killing other people of color, well, that’s just sad. What a waste.

RIP Sean Taylor. People here in DC are in mourning. I’ve seen a couple guys wearing his jersey. Very sad.
