Heavy Metal in Baghdad

This movie rocks, literally. The homie Rage wrote a great review, so I won’t waste too much time repeating what he already so eloquently described. I will echo his praise in that this film is a great, heart wrenching portrait of a band that is just trying to play music while their world blows up around them. These guys are not “political” (as they point out early in the film), they are just regular civilian Iraqi metal heads, and we get to see a sliver of their reality, the reality that America’s war in Iraq has caused. It also sheds some light on the plight of Iraqi refugees who have fled to all parts of the world. Out on dvd now, highly recommended.
